Because so many people want extra income, many fake sites and groups exist. They take registration fees, collect personal details, or simply never pay. Here are eight warning signs, and what a genuine platform does instead.
1. You have to pay to get tasks
This is the biggest warning sign. If a site asks for a "registration fee" before you can see any task, a "VIP upgrade" or a "deposit" to unlock work, be very careful. Work platforms earn their money from the businesses that order tasks. If a platform charges you anything at all, it must say so openly in its terms, tell you exactly what you get for it, and never ask for it in a private chat.
2. Guaranteed income
"Earn ₦50,000 every week, guaranteed." Nobody can guarantee that, because earnings depend on how many tasks are available and how many you complete. A genuine platform tells you the amount for each task before you start. It does not promise a total.
3. They ask for your PIN, password or OTP
No real platform needs your bank PIN, your card details, your email password or the OTP sent to your phone. FiniTasks will never ask for them. To pay you, a platform only needs your bank name, account number and account name.
4. You are told to "recruit to withdraw"
If you cannot withdraw until you bring other people in, or pay more, it is a pyramid, not a work platform. A genuine platform pays you for the work you did, and a referral, if there is one, is a bonus on top.
5. Proof of payment is only screenshots of other people
Scam groups post screenshots of "payments" to build trust. Screenshots can be faked in seconds. Look for how the platform explains the way money moves, what its terms say, and whether people can get help from support.
6. No names, no terms, no way to reach anyone
Check for a terms page, a privacy policy, a way to contact support, and rules about what is allowed. If everything is hidden in a Telegram group with an "admin" who has no name, walk away.
7. Pressure and countdown timers
"Only 3 slots left! Pay in the next 10 minutes!" Real work is not scarce in this way. Pressure is how scammers stop you from thinking.
8. You cannot withdraw a small amount first
Test a platform with a small amount. Do a few tasks, withdraw the minimum, and see whether the money arrives in your own bank account. If a site only lets you withdraw large amounts, or finds a new reason each time, it is not a place to trust with your time.
What a genuine platform looks like
- It shows you the amount for each task before you start
- It tells you exactly what proof is needed
- It gives you a reason if your work is rejected, and a way to appeal
- It pays by bank transfer to an account in your name
- It has terms, a privacy policy and a support page
- It never asks you to pay to be given work, and never asks for your PIN or OTP
What to do if you are not sure
Take your time. Read the terms. Do one or two tasks. Ask in support. Do not send money to anyone because of a message from someone you cannot identify.
